We just want a Bandaid

by in Jet Hag

Well today my arm was hung from the chair just in the correct place that when the dogs decided to fight over a milk bone my arm managed to get bitten! No worries as we have some Lanacane, and it stopped bleeding pretty quickly.

During our adventure out today to the markets I knocked my arm and it started to bleed, so we located a pharmacy to buy a new some bandaids…

Typical Indian pharmacy / drug store

In the western world you go in and buy a box of bandaids. Imagine our suprise when the pharmacist says “How many you need?” !!!!

We were totally speechless, and looked at each other in complete puzzlement!  What was weird was the guy actually had 2-4 boxes of them open ready for to choose our individual bandaids from, so I opted for the easy answer,  ” one box please” . This wasnt a good answer!, he looked back with the same look we must have had when he asked us how many, then walked off muttering something. We saw he go upstairs into the storage area and remove from the secret stash a whole box of bandaids. I gather no-one ever buys a whole box!

Of course these old pharmacies have all the moden drugs, but most of the drugs are still put together , and you can see a guy out back with morter and pestle grinding away and forming tablets… kinda freaky to see. Also buying the bandaids or anything in these old non self serve stores isnt easy, the pharmacist hands it to a clerk, he generates the invoice, you then take the invoice to the cashier, who then stamps the receipt and you return to the clerk to get your item…very strange and long winded like everything in India .
