May 19 – are we really here?

So once again we got very little sleep, Chris did a bit better than me. Our bodies have no idea what the time is plus you have to get used to the bed as it is the usual Asian one and the mattress is only an inch thick, but it was nice to actually lie down.

The shower was exciting this morning, no hot water, so that helped wake us up.

The gentleman who looks after the guest house got us tea and asked if we wanted some breakfast, the description wasnt great, vegetables where mentioned, so we declined and had some fruit.

Chris then went off to his new office to do paperwork and organise his interview in Delhi on Friday with the DGCA., and whatever else they needed him to do.

May 17-18 – We have arrived

So I cant believe we actually made it. We all arrived in one piece no major damage, all bags with everything still in them and the dogs and cat physically well but I dont know about emotionally yet.the view of downtown and the bridge over the river in the distance

We left St Petersburg, Florida, mini van packed to the gunnels 6am Sunday morning to try and get to Miami airport by 11am. We had our only upset of the whole trip before we left, Chris took one of the dog water containers out of the freezer and it fell on the counter and shattered, as this was something we had to have we needed to stop in Miami at Petsmart to pick up a new one before we got to the airport, luckily they had them in stock and we got to the airport right on 11.

Taking Dogs and Cats to India – the documents

Our story is that we are trying to leave Miami late next week for Kolkata with 2 dogs and a cat. We have traveled with to 7 countries so far with our animals, so we aren’t new to this. And so far have had no bad experiences with the effects of traveling on our animals …even with the odd disaster along the way with screwed up arrangements…and dogs not loaded onto planes even!

The drama begins

Well we have to take to take our children wherever we go, sure they are dogs and a cat but they are our children, so how do we go about this?desk-002

We have previously moved animals overseas with us, from Australia to Malaysia, Malaysia to Reunion, Reunion to Mauritius, Mauritius to South Africa, South Africa to USA and now USA to India… and at the end of the contract back to the USA. So we aren’t new to this international pet moving!

We start searching for information, there isn’t much as far as government website info we can find about taking your pets to India, but we do stumble across this board called India Mike . This site is great, but has some old information on it, and some people who are very very negative about travelling with animals!
