May 22 – TGIF

by in Dont drink the water

Chris left early this morning, 5am, to go to Dehli for his DGCA interview, again I have a long and boring day on my own.

Anita (the other pilots wife) invites me to go for the drive to look at apartments with her, we will be living in the same Society (complex) so it will be good for me to see everything. It is out near the airport, quite a long way from the city, and it is very isolated. The are no little villages around it, it is pretty much in the middle of a rice field. The complex is very new, still being constructed. There is a Mall being built next to it, which will be great when its finished, supposed to be about October. The apartments are big, modern for this part of the world. They are looking at three bedroom, we get a two bedroom, its part of Chris’s contract. The complex has good security, a swimming pool and walking track, it should be perfect for us and the dogs, I will just have to plan well when shopping as I wont be able to just run out for something.

I have lunch with Anita everyday which is nice, someone to talk to. She tells me about what we are eating, and we talk about India and other stuff. She and her husband have been married for 22 years and they have two sons, one who is currently doing an internship in Dallas, and the other is about to go to Carnegie Mellon in Philly to do a Masters. Their’s was an arranged marriage, they met for about 10 minutes a week or two before the ceramony. Hard to imagine it, but it works, only 2% of arranged marriages end up in divorce, maybe the western world has something to learn from this.

Chris’s interview goes very badly, he had been sent in totally unprepared. He was dressed incorrectly and the manual he took with him was not updated, and they are not happy that he has only been in the country for 3 days. Most other companies train you for at least two weeks on the company manuals before any testing, and everything in them is normally up to date, so I am not surprised that it didnt go well. And he really only had two days to study it as Tuesday we both had jet lag as we didnt get in until 1am. Anyway not to make excuses, he now knows what to expect next week when he goes back again. The guy he is flying with freaked out, blamed Chris totally, and was basically a total arsehole.

I had to have dinner with him and his wife at the Guest house, he wouldnt look or speak to me at all, very rude.
