Yes you can, but don't ask me where it is at Bangalore airport . I just tried to google it, but like most items about offices and locations in India its a mystery. You probably could find it but it would take hours.

Just have all the docs for your dog in hand when they go, also have a letter to say that the person is your authorized agent to act on your behalf. And be prepared to maybe expidite the NOC with a lunch in a nice hotel, or maybe a nice envelope to give to the officer with a couple thousand inr in it. (most officers aren't corrupt, but unfortunately some still are, and from my experience they are really obvious and blunt when they want you to know they want a fee)

Thanks for this great info. I will be taking my service dog in flight from Atlanta to Bangalore. Is there an office to get the NOC at the airport if I can get someone to do this for me? Thanks so much.

Firstly they only let you take 1 animal per person in the cabin, and most airlines only allow 2 animals per aircraft in the cabin in total, some more, some less.

As for the NOC , yes you can apparently get it issued from any city, but I would only do this with a local agent in case there are troubles. If I was getting someone at the other end to do it for me, I would only get the NOC from the airport you are arriving at, just to be safer.

Good luck, and there is not much in the way of cat food here, and its sometimes hard to get unless you are in a big city, so I hope your pussa isnt a fussy eater, and cat litter is really hard to get, but not impossible,

let us know how it goes

I would only recommend Lufthansa, but thats hard for you as you are in Chennai. Maybe a road trip to Mumbai and take a US airline to this side of the world, a direct flight will be a lot less stressful. As for cost, you are just up for the airfare, so weight the dog and cage, get the dimensions of the cage also and call the airlines, its time consuming in India but the only way. Make sure you mention they are going as excess baggage with you on the flight.

Just follow the directions I did here : http://www.chrisandcin.com/category/pets-from/ and make sure the dog has current vaccinations complete with certificates, it helps if the certificates have a picture of the dog on them too, or attached to them.

Its simple to go to the USA, you can find the US govt info here http://www.aphis.usda.gov/import_export/animals/animal_import/animal_imports_pets.shtml

When you enter the USA have some cash to tip the porter who you can find in the arrivals area, he will take you thru quarantine, where they check the dog papers. If you are transiting within the USA and need to find a hotel for a night let me know I have some links to the dog friendly hotel chains I think. Also all USA airports are setup for dogs and have dog walks just outside the door, just make sure you have some poop bags in case there are none available.

Hi. Thank you for your site. It is so helpful! I will be going to Chennai from the US for three months this fall. I have six cats. I know it is unrealistic to take all 6 (though I wish I could), but I would really like to take one or two of the cats. One of my cats becomes extremely neurotic if I leave him in the care of someone else -- he has abandonment issues. As a result, I have gotten used to travelling with him, and have found that he travels extremely well. So, I am hoping to be able to take him to India with me. I will only take him if I can make sure he travels on board with me though. I know people in Kolkata who can go to the airport for me and obtain the NOC. Would this work? Or do I need to have the NOC from the airport/city that I arrive at in India? Thanks so much!!!

Sorry late reply been on vacation...

Yes $400 is a rip off, they are all ripping us off, but it sure beats doing the run around!

But saying that if you have someone here in India that is able and willing to do it, get them to do it. Just give them all the paperwork we mentioned and get them to call or visit the local office of Animal Quarantine to get the NOC, its pretty straight forward to get. But saying that in Kolkata they will only let one person work on the NOC, so if you have mentioned it to one company and they have told Animal people that they will be handling your NOC, then you are screwed, you will have to continue with them. I found this out when I was looking for competing quotes.

good luck, and be careful traveling here at the moment with your pet in the hold due to the high temps in India (I would come in only on a night flight at the moment if I was you)

Hi Chris,

Thanks for mainitaining this awsome site to help out users like me. I am planning to bring my pet dog from Ottawa to Mumbai. I checked around a bit for NOC agents and $400 seems to be the cheapest that I can find now. Is it too steep now or should I just go ahead with the agents? I saw some of your posts about obtaining NOC through friends running around. Is it usually a hassle best avoided?

Thanks

I am not a vet but you are going to have a problem with the rabies shot, as its 4 mths isnt it for the first rabies shot in a puppy? And I dont think that the Indians will understand this, even though they are certified vets , I am really dubious about the qualification they hold, and I can almost bet that they will demand the rabies shot even though your puppy is too young for it.

But all you can do is apply without it, then if they want it do and get it. What does your vet say, can they give them the shot when they are just 2 mths old? Most probably they can nowadays...

good luck, let us know what works.

Hi Cindy & Chris,
Thanks for all the information on importing pets. Things are pretty clear now. But I am a bit confused as I am importing a 2 month old pup from Germany to India. What I want to know is, Since the puppy is only 2 months old do I still need a Rabies vaccination certification to obtain a No Objection Certificate and at the time puppy lands in India. I will be looking forward to your reply. Thanks for the help.

regards
